Cleveland Parachute Center, Inc. Celebrates It’s 50th Anniversary

 PARKMAN, OH – The Cleveland Parachute Center Inc., located in Parkman, Ohio, has been in Business for 50 years as of January 1, 2007.

     In 1957, Dale Gates, one of the Pioneers of Skydiving, opened the Parachute Club off of Rt.# 88 in Parkman Township. A Taylor Craft Airplane was used to fly one (1) skydiver at a time to 1,800’ above the ground.  At this location, they flew off a farmer’s field (Soltis Farms) because there was no runway.  The Parachute Club was eventually moved in 1959 to Troy Township on Hoover Rd.  Once again, they flew out of a farmer’s field (Kimpton Farms).  Then in 1964, Dale Gates bought a farm on Grove Rd.  At this time a clubhouse was built and a runway was put in and the club became more of a skydiving center.  The Cleveland Parachute Center, Inc. is now located in both Troy and Parkman Townships.  Skydiving can be seen most on nice weather weekends and sometimes during the weekday. Today we have 2 Cessna 185’s and on the weekends, we lease a Grand Caravan that holds up to 17 skydivers.

     The Cleveland Parachute Center, Inc. through the past 50 years has trained close to 40,000 – 1st time skydivers and made over 200,000 individual jumps.  The Business is now run by Dale Gate’s Sons — Bob and Mike Gates.  They are proud to announce their family run business has served Northeast Ohio for the past 50 years.
